Primary Section

The primary curriculum has at its heart the development of core subjects (Mathematics, English, and Science). The skills acquired are transferable in other learning contexts and subjects, alongside developing the attributes of our children to be confident, active learners, and responsible global citizens. PEHA Primary curriculum is designed and ringed around the Cambridge International curriculum for students as from Grades 1 – 6 and provides a comprehensive framework for education in primary school for all our pupils to enhance extend and boost the curriculum. We do this through club activities, sports, outdoor learning, social responsibility, adapting the topics taught, and an extensive co-curricular program. We cover a wide range of subjects and focus on developing key skills and knowledge in various areas such as:

Core Subjects:

o English: Cambridge Primary English enables learners to communicate confidently and effectively, as well as understand and enjoy a range of information and texts. It develops learners’ critical thinking skills as well as reading, writing, speaking, and listening skills in English. It includes activities to enhance comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and creative writing.

o Mathematics: Five content areas are explored in Cambridge Primary Mathematics: numbers, geometry, handling data, measure, and problem-solving. There is a focus on principles, patterns, systems, functions, and relationships so that learners can apply their mathematical knowledge holistically.

o Science: The Science curriculum introduces students to scientific concepts and processes through hands-on experiments and investigations. It covers topics like living things, materials, forces, and energy. Students have to consider ideas, evaluate evidence, plan, investigate, record, and analyze data, as well as consider some history of science and environmental awareness.

Foundation Subjects:

o Art and Design: Students explore their creativity through various art techniques and mediums. They learn about different artists, styles, and art movements.

o Music: The Music curriculum introduces students to basic music theory, instruments, and performance skills. It encourages creativity and musical expression.

o Physical Education (PE): PE focuses on developing students’ physical fitness, coordination, teamwork, and sportsmanship. It includes activities like games, sports, and fitness exercises.

o Global Perspectives: This program develops the skills of research, analysis, evaluation reflection, collaboration, and communication. These skills build a solid foundation for student learning, creating students who know how to learn, not simply knowledge. It strengthens the links across English as a first or second language, mathematics, science, and ICT Starters. This subject encourages students to explore global issues, develop critical thinking skills, and understand different perspectives on social, economic, and environmental issues.

o French: We have introduced a strong French program which will enable our students to pass the DELF/DALF international exams and get a certificate, French is learnt as a subject whereby each class should have a minimum of 1 period of 40 minutes every day.

Our French department consists of 3 different classes according to the ability and fluency of the students:

Beginners: This level is for students who are learning French for the first time or who are still struggling with the French language.

Intermediates: Students who have been with us learning French for at least 2 years or new admissions with some basic knowledge of French.

Advanced: Students who are fluent in French and able to learn advanced concepts of French

Cross-Curricular Skills

Assessment:

As a Cambridge curriculum Institution PEHA Aims at offering Checkpoint and progression test assessments which are available for English, Mathematics, and Science as part of Cambridge assessment policy. These assessments provide feedback on students’ strengths and areas for improvement, helping teachers track progress and plan further instruction.
